Understanding Workplace Discrimination: Key Training Opportunity

Posted by

As strategic Orlando Human Resources consultants and business partners we often find that Florida employers are focused upon federal anti-discrimination statutes and have little understanding that Florida also has a vigorous civil rights statutory framework that seeks to eliminate unlawful discrimination in the workplace.  The Florida Commission on Human Relations is charged with this responsibility.

The most recent breakdown of charges filed against Florida employers through the Florida Commission on Human Relations finds the following breakdown as the basis for activity: Retaliation- 23%; Disability-21% ; Race-18%; Sex-18%; Age-11%.

In addition, many Florida cities and counties have their own ordinances that forbid discrimination in the workplace.

Our thoughts: training, training, training on the rules of the workplace. It will pay for itself many times over.
